In 1991, Lilia and her young partner Mikhail Botashev were the first dance pair of their age from the Soviet Union to compete abroad.

Darrens' parents are Professional Dancers who own City Limits Dance Centre in Sheffield. Darrens' brother Dale is an ex competitor who is also a professional dancer/coach.
